What’s New about the 2022 Toyota Tundra?

The Toyota Tundra has been a mainstay of the pickup segment for over 20 years, but it’s been nearly unchanged for 15 of those years. For the 2022 model year, the Tundra finally gets a long-overdue update, and Toyota’s engineers made sure to make this Tundra the best it could be. Upgraded Powertrains

In the new Tundra, you get a choice of two powerful engines: the standard 3.5L V6 with 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque (348 hp/405 lb-ft in SR trim), and a hybrid version of that engine, which is even more powerful at 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota’s engineers worked tirelessly to improve these engines from the inside out, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the hybrid i-FORCE MAX engine. It features a motor generator that provides extra power and torque when towing, and a quieter ride with higher efficiency at low-speed EV mode. It’s the peak of Toyota’s engineering prowess in both power and efficiency, yoked in one responsive package.

Performance Off-Road and on the Job

If you like to keep going even after the pavement ends, you have the choice between two off-road options in the 2022 Toyota Tundra. The Tundra TRD Off-Road features 20-inch wheels, Bilstein monotube shocks, skid plates, a locking rear differential, and a terrain selector, along with four-wheel drive. The Tundra TRD Pro sweetens the deal further with 2.5-in Fox shocks, a stiffer stabilizer bar, 1.1-in front suspension lift, and more!

The 2022 Toyota Tundra has you covered when you’re working hard, too. Its rugged aluminum composite bed looks great and is more rust- and dent-resistant than steel, for example. And when you’re looking to tow, the Tundra is rated for up to 12,000 pounds, and has a maximum payload capacity of 1,940 lbs.

Improved Technology Inside

The 2022 Tundra comes standard with Toyota’s new Audio Multimedia System, which features a spacious 8- or 14-inch touchscreen, oversized icons, easy-to-use menus, and a much faster processor. Alongside those features, you’ll also be able to interface with your phone using wireless Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™.
