A Fast and Easy Toyota Tire Service Review

August 2nd, 2022 by

At Hendrick Toyota Concord, we want to inform you that it’s important to keep up with tire routine maintenance on any vehicle. Why? Because each tire takes part in getting a driver and passenger(s) from one point to another. If you don’t make sure your Toyota tires are taken care of, you could risk one of them blowing out, which can put you and others lives at risk.

A major part of maintaining Toyota tires is making sure they’re safe to drive on the road. It doesn’t matter if you have a new Toyota with zero miles on it, or one that is used or Certified Pre-Owned, our Toyota service center has your back. From a Toyota tire rotation to alignments, our technicians are ready to help keep your tires in tiptop shape!

If you can’t get to our service department right away, no worries! There are some ways you can figure out if you need new tires in the meantime. For instance, you can insert a penny into the grooves on your tire tread, and if any part of Lincoln’s head is covered, your tires are good to go! However, if you can clearly see Lincoln’s head, the treads are too worn down and more than likely need to be replaced.

How to Change your Tires Step-By-Step

For most drivers, a flat tire typically shows up least expected. Regardless of how it happened, the basic mechanics of changing a tire are the same whether you have a car, truck, or SUV. Below, we have broken down how to change a tire in 5 simple steps.

1. Safely Pull Over

To keep your car from rolling, try to safely pull over to level ground. And if you’re on the side of the road, be sure to pull over as much as possible. If it’s dark, or you’re in an unsafe area, it’s a good idea to try to maneuver your vehicle to a better position. It’s also important to use your hazard lights and parking brake in this situation.

2. Look For Materials

When it comes to a flat tire, you’ll definitely need a jack, wrench, and spare tire. Some additional items that can make the tire changing process easier are:

  • Gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Tire Gauge
  •  Owner’s Manual
  • Mat for Kneeling

3. Loosen Lug Nuts/Lift your Vehicle Off the Ground and Remove the Tire

If your vehicle has a hubcap (a wheel cover), make sure to pry it off first. Then, place the wrench securely onto each lug nut to loosen them. Next, place the jack under the metal portion of your vehicle’s frame, but do not place it where there’s plastic molding of any sort. Once it’s properly placed, you can use the jack to begin raising the tire off the ground. A general rule of thumb is to make sure the jack stays perpendicular to the ground at all times.

Once you’ve lifted the tire successfully with the jack, it’s time to remove the loosened lug nuts. It’s important to note that you need to keep all the lug nuts together in a safe spot, and when they’re removed, there’s nothing keeping the tire attached to your vehicle. At this moment, you’ll securely grip your tire and remove it by pulling it towards your body.

4. Place the Spare Tire On and Replace the Lug Nuts

At this point, you need to line up the holes in your spare tire with the lug nut posts, and then place the spare on the wheelbase, making sure it’s pushed back as far as possible. The lug nuts that you put aside in a safe place will then need to be put back on, but don’t tighten them all the way just yet. However, it’s still important to tighten them enough in a way that keeps the tire(s) even.

5. Lower Your Vehicle and Begin Tightening Process

With the jack, slowly lower your vehicle until your spare begins to touch the ground. Then you can start the process of tightening the lug nuts more in increments, as well as alternating every-other nut. By doing this, you’ll keep the tire on straight.

When all the lug nuts feel equally tight (but not all the way), you can completely lower your vehicle to the ground. Once you’ve done this, you can continue tightening the lug nuts in incremental order until they no longer can budge.
